Information about Munich

Munich is the political and economical capital of Bavaria. Munich is located in the south of Germany close to the Alps. The city is equipped with an international airport, a trade fair center and a large variety of Museums and Theaters. Detailed cultural and touristic information is available on http://www.muenchen.de.

Munich was Olympic City in 1972 and the Olympic Center is still a special place for sports events, cultural events and recreation.
Munich offers numerous architectural highlights. The large church with two towers ("Frauenkirche"), another church in yellow ("Theatinerkirche") and the victory gate ("Siegestor") which is located in the impressive "Leopoldstrasse" are few examples.
Apart from the well known "Marienplatz" in the center of Munich, there are several other squares which are worth while visiting: the square of kings ("Königsplatz"), "Odeonsplatz" close to the beautiful "Hofgarten" and a square which is called Liberty of Munich ("Münchner Freiheit") with a variety of cafes nearby.
Well known is the "English Garden", a large recreation area close to the city center. Of course Munich offers also extended opportunities for shopping. There is the "Viktualienmarkt" with an international variety of nearly all kinds of food. Examples for shopping streets are "Kaufingerstrasse" in the pedestrian area and the "Maximilianstrasse" with a selection of luxury shops.
Certainly the famous "Christkindlmarkt", the christmas street market on the "Marienplatz", will be worth a visit.
